Encouraging your baby to spend time each day tummy-down on the floor (or one of our super comfortable and design-friendly play mats), is super important for development and reaching all those milestones. Tummy time strengthens your baby's neck, core muscles, and upper body and helps baby get ready to sit up and crawl. Some babies love tummy time from the get-go, while for other little ones it's a bit of a struggle at first. Here are a few tips for making the most of this important time:
Keep It Entertaining
Setting down some bright, colorful toys, baby books, or a toy mirror will make tummy time more interesting and fun for your baby. Make sure your baby has something entertaining at eye level during tummy time, and they will be distracted from how weird the whole laying on your tummy thing is.
Use Tummy Time to Bond
Tummy time is a great bonding activity, and the more you participate and engage the more fun it will be for your baby. Get down on the large play mat and sing, tell stories, make silly faces, and give your baby lots of encouragement for all the hard work they're doing during tummy time. This doesn't just for for moms- tummy time is the perfect time for bonding with daddy, too.
Don't Overdo It
Laying on his tummy may feel awkward and unfamiliar at first, so you don't want to overdo it. Start off with just a few minutes at a time, and gradually increase the amount of time your baby spends on their tummy. As your baby gains core and neck strength, tummy time will become much more comfortable for them.
